The Gospel is Our Why!

Everybody lives by a “why.” It’s what gets us out of bed in the morning. For some, it’s family. For others, it’s work, success, comfort, or freedom. But every “why” we choose eventually runs out of gas. Families fracture, jobs disappoint, money fades, health fails. If our “why” rests on shaky ground, our lives do too.

That’s why our “why” isn’t something we came up with. It’s the gospel. It’s not advice about what we should do, but good news about what God has done. The gospel tells the true story of the world and its the story we tell ourselves over and over again.

  • We were made with dignity. God created us in His image — every person has value.

  • We are broken in sin. The world’s a mess, and so are we. We can’t fix it ourselves.

  • We are rescued by Christ. Jesus lived, died, and rose again to bring us back to God.

  • We are headed for renewal. One day, God will make all things new, and we get to start living that future now.

This story explains everything — the beauty we see, the pain we feel, the love we long for, and the hope we need. It’s the only “why” that doesn’t collapse under the weight of life.

So when we say the gospel is our why, we mean:

  • It’s why we worship.

  • It’s why we love our neighbors.

  • It’s why we work with purpose.

  • It’s why we endure suffering with hope.

Every other “why” eventually ends. The gospel never does. It is the power of God for salvation, the center of who we are, and the reason why Lakeway Pres exists.
